The Lagos State Government has served contravention notices to some car wash operators along WEMCO and Akilo roads in the Agege area of the state.

The government accused them of violating the state’s planning and standard operational guidelines.

The acting General Manager of Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Authority (LASPEMA), Olanrenwaju Kazeem, who issued the notices during a monitoring exercise by the agency, said other owners of car wash facilities whose activities threaten the state’s environmental sustainability drive should be warned.

He said, “If the affected operators fail to adhere strictly to the stipulated guidelines within seven days as contained in the notices, the government will be left with no option than to shut their facilities.”

Kazeem said the exercise was necessary to ensure that operators align with the Smart City initiative of the government, adding that the action was necessitated by the need to curb misuse of open spaces and to also enhance the aesthetics of the state.

The acting GM lamented the rate at which car wash facilities were springing up in different parts of the state, saying if the trend was not standardised, the urban regeneration plans of the government would become efforts in futility.

He advised those who wanted to venture into car wash business to seek information on operational guidelines and ensure that their operations did not impede human and vehicular movement.

He urged operators of car wash facilities to desist from engaging in unwholesome practices that would affect residents of the state.
